“Appropriate Building Technology” refers to building processes and tools that are appropriate to the climate, socio-economic conditions and natural resources of an area and which contribute to sustainable development. The result of the education in Appropriate Building Technologies is an “Appropriate Architecture” to be implemented in the built environment by all related technologies and disciplines such as the promotion of sustainable solutions.


The purpose of research is a reduction of the costs of a building by all related issues, to use building materials of regional recourses (particularly natural building materials), to calculate the embodied energy in building materials and to compare this with common building materials like HCB, concrete or cement, steel etc.
Research is undertaken in the fields of competence: Alternative building materials, alternative construction materials, embedded energy in materials, toxic of materials, catalog of alternative building details, etc.
