Durham University
We have been carrying out research into rammed earth at the School of Engineering at Durham University since 2003. Our interests lie in engineering characterization of the material both for new build (stabilised and unstabilised) and in heritage structures, in particular those found in the Aragon region of Spain where we work closely with colleagues in the Department of Archaeology at Durham. We have excellent laboratory testing facilities for geotechnical testing of rammed earth materials. We welcome your interest.
Teaching
Engineering at Durham offers four-year MEng and three-year BEng degree courses in General Engineering, with specialisation from the third year. Full details are available from the department’s website. We also offer PhD programmes in areas allied to our research interests and are really only limited by prospective students’ ideas, and funding of course, which is very hard to obtain.
