Objectives
We want to promote earth & bamboo as excellent materials for sustainable construction and establish a global network to enforce exchange of knowledge and experience.
Earthen and bamboo architecture has not only a long tradition in human settlement, but it also offers many advantages for contemporary architecture. BASEhabitat wants to foster the consideration of socio-cultural, economical and ecological aspects in the architectural design and construction.

Program
Practice and theory on contemporary architecture with low-tech materials: earth and bamboo.
Workshops
The focus lies on practical work. Participants can choose 2 workshops on different techniques. Each one lasts 4,5 days.
Material science
Basics in using earth and bamboo for construction.
Exchange and discussion between the workshops.

Theory classes
Theory classes will present different insights and allow discussions about challenges of sustainable architecture.

Field trip
In a field trip we will visit some historic buildings made of earth and wood. Who wants a day off, can use this day.
Peer lectures
In the evening we give the stage to the participants. You can present your projects and create new networks.
Participation
We address architects, students, lecturers, craftsmen and -women from all over the world, who are interested in sustainable architecture.

Cost
1500 € for the Summer School including accommodation and food (full board) and the field trip.
